Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard
Amendment and addition to the Application Manual

Revision of “Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard (JASO M 355) Application manual” (2024.09)

The JASO Engine Oil Standards Implementation Panel revised "Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard (JASO M 355)Application manual" in accordance with the amendments of Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard(JASO M 355:2024).

The main points of the revision are as follows.

(1) The standard oil is changed :
In this “Automotive Diesel Engine Oil” Standard (JASO M355: 2024), the standard oil is changed due to the problem with suppliability
(standard oil for fuel economy test DFE1 => DFE2)
(standard oil for valve train wear test DV4 => DV5).
(2) About the engine test data :
Since the change from JASO M355: 2021 to JASO M355: 2024 is only a change in the standard oil, the engine test data conducted with the standard oil for fuel economy test DFE1 and the standard oil for train valve wear test DV4 specified in JASO M355: 2021 are also valid for the confirmation test described in "4.2 JASO Engine Test."
(3) On the Filing of an Oil conforming to the Standard,
the Effective Period of On-File,
and the Indication of Classification of the Standard :

*The on-file termination date for engine oils conforming to the JASO M355: 2017:
March 31, 2027
*The last date when a new reporting is accepted for engine oils conforming to the JASO M355: 2021:

*The first date when classification indications is allowed for engine oils conforming to the JASO M355: 2024 shall be October 1, 2024, and the change level shall be a minor revision.
The definition of the change level shall be classified as minor revision and revision in accordance with the definition of JASO standard revision.
(Minor revisions shall be minor technical changes that require changes in the short term, and revisions shall be the other cases.)

Revision of “Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard (JASO M 355) Application manual” (2021.05)

The JASO Engine Oil Standards Implementation Panel revised "Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard (JASO M 355)Application manual" in accordance with the amendments of Automotive Diesel Engine Oil Standard(JASO M 355:2021).

The main points of the revision are as follows.

(1) Review of high temperature oxidation test :
As for ASTM D6984 (Sequence IIIF) and ASTM D7320 (Sequence IIIG) cited in this standard, for the reason the engine supply was stopped, API had been considered an alternative test method. Since the standard value using ASTM D8111 (Sequence IIIH) as an alternative test method was decided by API in 2019, it was examined whether it was appropriate as a quality certification for high temperature oxidation test of JASO M355 and was reviewed.
(2) Addition of the DL-2 classification :
A new classification DL-2 compatible with after-treatment devices was added. It was expanded sulfated ash standard value to ACEA C2, C3, and C5, while distinguishing it from the DL-1 standard, which specified a low sulfated ash content.
(3) On the Filing of an Oil conforming to the Standard,
the Effective Period of On-File,
and the Indication of Classification of the Standard :

*The on-file termination date for engine oils conforming to the JASO M 355: 2015 standard:
extended from 30 September 2021 to 31 March 2022
(to be able to update with JASO M355: 2021 when updating the on-file of JASO M355: 2015.)
*The last date when a new reporting is accepted for engine oils conforming to the JASO M 355: 2017:
